Preparing a trip around the world in three months time

It’s a challenge to prepare an entire year in just three months time. CertainIy if one works full time. And boy, how time flies… I have not read half the stuff I wanted to research. So yeah, a lot of the trip will be improv and relying on guide books and suggestions of people I will meet on the road. But heck, that’s part of the adventure, isn’t it? I have set out a grand route. But it is not a fixed schedule. I don’t need to see every place on the list. I just go with the flow. Below are my preparations for a trip around the world:

1. Set out route (Which continents? Which countries?)
2. Choose the right ATW airplane ticket formula  (Do I buy separate plane tickets? Do I chose the formula with the miles? Or the one with the zones?)
3. Select a travel insurance that fits my specific needs
4. Arrange documents (international ID, international driver’s license, yellow medical book, visa,…)
5. Vaccinations
6. Medical check-up and visit to the dentist
7. Fill in annual tax form (in my case, three months in advance)
8. Cancel unnessary monthly payments if possible (rent, mobile phone plan, health insurance,…)
9. Inform official institutions about my absence (bank, postal service, city hall, etc.)
10. Set up a website
11. Lessons in self-defense
12. Learn Spanish to get by in South-America

Een wereldreis voorbereiden in drie maanden tijd

Het is een uitdaging om een heel jaar voor te bereiden in drie maanden tijd. Zeker als je voltijds werkt. De tijd staat allesbehalve stil… Ik heb niet eens de helft gelezen van wat ik wou lezen over de plaatsen die ik ga bezoeken. Ik heb er simpelweg de tijd niet voor. Dus ja, het merendeel van mijn trip zal ik vertrouwen op reisgidsen en tips die ik krijg van reizigers onderweg. Ach ja, da’s juist een deel van het avontuur, niet? De grote route heb ik uitgezet maar ik heb geen vast schema. Ik hoef niet alle plaatsen te zien die op mijn lijstje staan. Ik zie ter plekke wel waar ik zin in heb. Dit zijn mijn voorbereidingen voor een wereldreis:

1. De route uitstippelen (Welke continenten? Welke landen?)
2. De juiste vliegtuigticket formule selecteren (Kies ik voor losse tickets? Het systeem met de zones? Of toch maar de mijlen?)
3. Een goede reisverzekering afsluiten (marktonderzoek opgezet om te kijken welke het best past bij mijn persoonlijke noden.)
4. Documenten verzamelen (internationale reispas, internationaal rijbewijs, medisch geel boekje, visas, etc…)
5. Vaccinaties
6. Medische check-up en bezoek aan de tandarts
7. Belastingbrief invullen (drie maanden op voorhand. Mooi op tijd, niet waar?)
8. Nodeloze maandelijkse betalingen opzeggen indien mogelijk (huur, gsm abonnement, mutualiteit, verzekeringen, etc…)
9. Officiële instanties op de hoogte brengen van vertrek (bank, post, gemeentehuis)
10. Website opzetten
11. Lessen zelfverdediging
12. Basis Spaans leren om mijn vrouwtje te kunnen staan in Zuid-Amerika
