Cambodia: Dolphin Watching in Kratie
The town of Kratie is completely out of the direction of my route but I still sat on a bus for six hours just to spot the rare Irrawaddy dolphins. Kratie is the best place in Cambodia to see them. They are highly endangered. The last remaining 75 dolphins live in the Mekong River between Kratie and the border of Laos. And yes, they were at home when I went to visit them! Unfortunately, they are not like Flipper and they don’t jump out of the water through hoops, but I’ve had the opportunity to take some pictures. I can now remove ‘photograph an endangered species’ from my to do-list. Check!

Zeldzame dolfijnen spotten in Kratie
Het plaatsje Kratie ligt helemaal uit de richting van mijn route maar ik heb er toch een busrit van zes uur voor over om de zeldzame Irrawaddy dolfijn te spotten. Kratie is de beste plaats in Cambodja om deze met uitsterven bedreigde zoetwaterdolfijn te zien. De laatste 75 Irrawaddy dolfijnen leven in de Mekong rivier tussen Kratie en de grens van Laos. En jawel, ze waren thuis toen ik op bezoek ging! Helaas zijn het geen Flippers en springen ze niet uit het water door hoepels, maar ik heb het geluk om toch enkele foto’s te kunnen nemen. Zo, ‘Een met uitsterven bedreigde diersoort fotograferen’, kan ik ook weer van mijn To Do– lijstje schrappen. Check!
